Who we are

This website is run by Fair Gold Price (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we handle when you use the site, and why.

Using the site without sharing anything

You can check prices, use the calculator, read our guides and browse shops by state without creating an account or giving us any personal information.

Information you choose to give us

Your location

If you press “Use my location”, your browser asks your permission first. Your location is used in your browser to sort shops by distance. It is not stored by us. To show the map and the name of your area, it is sent to OpenStreetMap services (map images and place-name lookup). A ZIP code or city you type is checked against our own list of US ZIP codes and is not sent anywhere else. To show nearby shops without asking, we also estimate your city from your internet (IP) address using the GeoJS lookup service. That estimate is rough, is not stored by us, and is not linked to you.

Accounts

If you create an account, we keep your email address, the date you signed up, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your password. We cannot read your password. A cookie keeps you logged in; it is needed for the account to work and is removed when you log out. You can delete your account yourself from the account page, which removes this information. People who gave us an email address before accounts existed are kept on a list until they ask us to delete it, and we send nothing to it.

You can also log in with Google or Apple. We then receive only your email address and a stable ID from that company, and we keep them to recognise you next time; we do not get your password, contacts or other data. The log-in and sign-up forms may show a Cloudflare Turnstile box that checks you are human; Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser details for that, under its own privacy policy.

Contact messages

If you contact us, we keep your name (if given), email address and message so we can reply and keep a record of the conversation.

Seller reports

If you report an offer you received from a shop, we store the details you enter (such as the item, weight, offer and your review). Reports are checked by a person before anything is published. If you upload a receipt photo, it is kept privately for that check and is never shown publicly.

Information collected automatically

• Basic server records. Like most websites, our server receives your IP address with each request. To prevent spam and abuse, we store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it with sign-ups, messages and reports, not the address itself.
• Live prices. Your browser fetches the live gold and silver price from our price data provider, which receives your IP address as part of that request.
• Tip button. The coffee button in the corner links to our Ko-fi page. Nothing is loaded from Ko-fi, and nothing is sent to them, unless you click the link. After that, Ko-fi’s own privacy policy applies.
• Market charts. Pages with market charts (Markets, News) load free chart widgets from TradingView when you scroll to them. TradingView receives your IP address and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy. Pages without charts never contact TradingView.
• News headlines. Our server collects headlines from the GDELT Project, the CFTC and the Federal Reserve. Your browser asks only our server for them. When you click a headline, you go to the publisher’s own site.
• Preferences in your browser. We save your day or night mode choice in your own browser. It never leaves your device.

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels ourselves. If that changes, we will update this policy first and tell you here.

How we use information

• To run the site and its features you ask for.
• To run your account and keep you logged in.
• To reply to you.
• To check and publish seller reports.
• To protect the site from spam, fraud and abuse.

What we never do

• We do not sell or rent your personal information.
• We do not share your email with shops or dealers.
• We do not show your exact location to anyone.

Who we share it with

Only service providers that help us run the site, such as our hosting and database providers and, once in use, our email delivery and payment providers. They may use the information only to provide their service to us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

• Accounts: until you delete your account. Older email-list entries: until you ask us to delete them.
• Contact messages: up to two years, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
• Receipt photos: deleted once a report has been checked, unless we need them to resolve a dispute.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, and you can delete your account at any time. Residents of some states, such as California, have additional rights under state law; we honor those requests for everyone. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. Children

Our guides are written so anyone can understand them, but the site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections and limited access to stored data. No website can be perfectly secure, so please do not send us sensitive information such as ID numbers or bank details.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
